Louis-Jean Cormier launches When night falls, five years after the release of the album Les grandes arteres. In between: tours, a sabbatical, trips and a piano that is dusted to the point of becoming the heart of this third solo disc. A new musical adventure is taking shape, broadening the sound horizons of the songwriter.
If there is no guitar on the 10 songs, the rock spirit is never far away, led by the vocal surges of Louis-Jean, the energy of the faithful collaborators Alex McMahon (synthesizers and drums), Marc-André Larocque (drums and percussion) and Guillaume Chartrain (bass and synthesizers), as well as by the "ugly keyboards" of François Lafontaine (Karkwa). "At a time of social distancing, I can see how the presence of everyone has fueled this record. I hope this collaborative spirit will be heard. "
On the text side, Louis-Jean Cormier is always supported by the lyricist Daniel Beaumont, with whom he drew with whom he designed this album.
Poet David Goudreault invites himself to words and voice on Open Fists, propelling the play towards new territories where resistance leads the charge. Louis-Jean also finds his cousin and grand chief of the Petite-Vallée Song Festival, Alan Côté, present in choir on Face au vent, a song addressing resilience against a background of fire.
