The music on this album, recorded in April 1953, marks the definitive moment in Frank Sinatra s comeback after his career appeared to have come to a close in 1952. This was an extremely difficult period for the singer, both personally and professionally. Musical tastes had changed, rock & roll was emerging and many felt that Sinatra had become pass, a product of an earlier period with nothing more to contribute to popular music. However, ending a longtime musical relationship with Axel Stordahl who was responsible for most of his previous orchestrations Frank chose to try his luck with another celebrated composer and arranger: Nelson Riddle. This proved a wise decision as Riddle s arrangements, heard on the present release and on multiple others, gave the singer s music a more modern approach.
